Nona Kurdovanidze is a human rights lawyer and researcher with more than 15 years of experience. She has been a chairperson of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) since December 2022. GYLA is a membership-based NGO established in 1994. 30 years ago, following the collapse of the economy and the inexistence of the state institutions, with soaring threats to human rights, GYLA was at the epicenter of combating human rights issues. Throughout the years, GYLA maintained its work at multiple interconnected levels, providing legal aid to over 1 million individuals.
Nona is the author/co-author of up to 10 researches dealing with justice, legislation on administrative offences, ill-treatment, the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, the state policy concerning IDPs, and the right to proper housing. Nona holds a LLM degree. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Russian Studies.
